McCurdy Memorial (9/30-10/1)
Two teams of sailors headed down to the McCurdy Memorial Regatta in North East, MD hosted by UDel and the North East Harbour Yacht Club. a Spectacular weekend of club team competition. The forecast on Saturday was a building breeze from the North East. Starting at 8 knots and building up to 15-18 in the afternoon. Sailors Carly Mraz ‘25, Virginia Cobbs ‘25, Evelyn Walsh ‘26, and Katie Greppin ‘26 made up the roster for Tigers 1 starting slow but catching fire in the middle sets of day 1. The race course was slightly skewed to course right with a high pin end on the start line making for a quick spring to the port layline. Princeton Sailors quickly caught on to the uneven course geometry and implemented this into their race strategy. After polishing uptheir starting routine Sailors in both A and B Fleet manage to consistently finish in the top position which would put Tigers 1 in 3rd place after day 1. Sailors Bracklinn Williams ‘25, Tacy Guest ‘26, William Roberts ‘26, and Ellen Toberman ‘25 made up the roster for Tigers 2. Learning from their fellow teammates in Tigers 1 they were able to implement the same strategy which would help Tigers 2 finish the day in 2nd place after day 1 after breakout performance from Roberts and Toberman in the B fleet placing no lower than 3rd in every race on Saturday. Sunday brought lighter winds and a shorter day for sailors with only 4 races sailed to complete the 14-race series. Tiger sailors fought well to hold off competitors in the puffy and shifty conditions finishing in 2nd and 3rd place overall! A double podium finish at this year’s McCurdy Memorial left all sailors feeling happy with the result, but hungry to push on through the fall season. A big thank you to everyone at the University of Delaware Sailing for hosting a great event and fun weekend of club sailing!
